There are a bunch of activities such as fishing and sidequests to partake in as well, though some can feel fetchy and a bit of a pain. Add boss fights as the cherry on top and there’s a lot to like with Twilight Princess’ game design. The dungeons are also among the best in the series, requiring a nice mix of puzzle solving and use of interesting gadgets such as the gravity boots, for example, in order to conquer. In addition to the standard swordplay and selection of gadgets that make Link the equivalent of Fantasy Batman, the horseback action and wolf sequences freshens up the experience from your basic Zelda action, though wolf combat admittedly isn’t as deep as fighting with regular Link. Still, the gameplay remains solid overall, though I find it ironic that I’m actually missing the much maligned Wiimote and nunchuck combo for certain actions. This, in addition to the excellent dynamic between both protagonists, is also a big reason why Twilight Princess’ story is my favorite of the Zelda games, even if the overall gameplay might not quite approach the initial genre-defining impact of Ocarina of Time for some fans.

Midna’s inclusion also makes for a better tale, not just because of her tragic backstory but her gradual transformation from a selfish, bossy character to one that comes to care for her partner. Whether it be her unique look and voice, impish expressions, or personality as an antihero, her addition to the game provides a nice, mysterious counterbalance to Link, who feels more like an empty vessel for players to project on. Speaking of Midna, I continue to adore her character designs and mannerisms, which is one of the more memorable parts of the game for me. There’s just something about the way its world is designed that drills down the lonely and solitary experience of Link’s journey, even though he may have company in the form of Epona or Midna.

So much so that I find myself taking a break, not necessarily because I’m tired but because the game does such a great job in immersing players in Link’s experience that it can be emotionally taxing. That, in a nutshell, is pretty much how I feel everytime I play Twilight Princess, and it is a powerful feeling. Sometime early in the game, Link is asked if he ever feels lonely during sunset - the time when the worlds of light and dark intersect. A big part of that is the mood it evokes, which quickly came flooding back to me as I entered the game’s world yet again. Might we see a similar scenario play out? It's certainly possible, but we will have to wait a few more months for Nintendo to offer concrete details on what fans can expect for the future. The essence of Twilight Princess, however, makes the journey to the present intact, which is ultimately what really matters, especially for players who have yet to experience it.

Back in 2006, the original Twilight Princess released first for Nintendo's newly-released Wii system before releasing on the Gamecube a month later. It also wouldn't be the first time Nintendo released a new Zelda game on two platforms at roughly the same time. So far, the NX and its release date are a complete mystery, but having the new Legend of Zelda game to serve as a launch title for the console would certainly make sense. Recent rumors state that the game may also arrive on Nintendo's new console, the NX, as well. Legend of Zelda Wii U is scheduled to release in 2016, though Nintendo has yet to issue a definitive release date for the title. You can check out the Easter eggs in a video from Nintendo Life below. Sadly, no new images are revealed in the paintings, meaning fans will still have to wait for new glimpses at Nintendo's next big adventure. Both these images come from already-released teaser trailers for Nintendo's upcoming game.
